چکیده

In this paper, we present a four-step technique for simultaneously estimating a human’s anthropometric measurements (up to a scale parameter) and pose from a single uncalibrated image. The user initially selects a set of image points that constitute the projection of selected landmarks. Using this information, along with a priori statistical information about the human body, a set of plausible segment length estimates is produced. In the third step, a set of plausible poses is inferred using a geometric method based on joint limit constraints. In the fourth step, pose and anthropometric measurements are obtained by minimizing an appropriate cost function subject to the associated constraints. The novelty of our approach is the use of anthropometric statistics to constrain the estimation process that allows the simultaneous estimation of both anthropometry and pose. We demonstrate the accuracy, advantages, and limitations of our method for various classes of both synthetic and real input data. c © 2001 Academic Press

A New Method for Estimating Body Height from Uncalibrated Images

We address the problem of estimating a person’s body height from a single uncalibrated image. The novelty of our work lies in that we handle two difficult cases not previously addressed in the literature: (i) the image contains no reference length in the background scene, (ii) the image contains the upper body only. In a nutshell, our method combines well-known ideas from projective geometry an...

Estimating Human Dynamics On-the-fly Using Monocular Video For Pose Estimation

Human pose estimation using uncalibrated monocular visual inputs alone is a challenging problem for both the computer vision and robotics communities. From the robotics perspective, the challenge here is one of pose estimation of a multiply-articulated system of bodies using a single nonspecialized environmental sensor (the camera) and thereby, creating low-order surrogate computational models ...

Estimating 3D Body Pose using Uncalibrated Cameras

An approach for estimating 3D body pose from multiple, uncalibrated views is proposed. First, a mapping from image features to 2D body joint locations is computed using a statistical framework that yields a set of several body pose hypotheses. The concept of a “virtual camera” is introduced that makes this mapping invariant to translation, image-plane rotation, and scaling of the input. As a co...
